CORESafety Module 2:
Management Systems Integration and Coordination
Mining operations should allocate the necessary resources—budget, time and personnel—to develop and maintain an effective SHMS that integrates seamlessly with other areas like mine planning, operations, maintenance, contract management, human resources, purchasing and IT.
This integration depends on strong support from senior management, including appointing an executive sponsor to provide clear guidance and the resources needed for coordinated implementation.
Thorough documentation is essential to turn policies into everyday practices, balancing legal and practical needs while providing evidence of the system’s impact on safety and health.
A practical tool for this coordination is the RACI matrix, which clearly outlines who is Responsible, Accountable, Consulted and Informed (RACI) for every task and decision.
