CORESafety TV (November 2020): The Importance of Maintaining And Replacing Your Mining Work Boots
Welcome to the November edition of CORESafety TV — the online video program from the National Mining Association.
Here’s one of the most important safety aspects of mining today that sometimes gets overlooked by even the most experienced miners –
When and why should you replace your work boots?
Back in 2017, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) kicked off a two-year longitudinal work boot study to help answer that very question.
The name of the study was “Slip, Trip, and Fall Hazard Identification, Investigation, and Remediation at Surface Mining Facilities”.
In this episode of CORESafety TV, we interview Ashley Whitson, who was an engineer at the Pittsburgh Mining Research division of NIOSH and who played a key role in conducting the study.
Take a look at how mining work boots get worn out so quickly and learn when it’s time to replace them.
Also in this episode, we take a look at CORESafety’s Module #7 – Culture Enhancement.
